meet Dr. Stephen Walker

As a board certified endodontist Dr. Walker is committed to the highest standard of state of the art root canal treatment. Above all else, he is dedicated to assuring the comfort of his patients and that their root canal experience is relaxing and pain free.

Education Background

Dr. Walker completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Windsor in his hometown of Windsor, Ontario, Canada. In 2005 he earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) degree from the University of Detroit Mercy. He completed a one year General Practice Residency (GPR) in 2006 at the Veterans Hospital in Detroit Michigan where he received advanced training in oral surgery, oral pathology, and anesthesia. He returned to the University of Detroit Mercy for his endodontic training earning a Specialty Certificate in Endodontics and a Masters of Science Degree in 2010.

Dr. Walker is a board certified endodontist, having achieved Diplomate status with the American Board of Endodontics. This is a remarkable achievement as it has required rigorous written and oral examination, along with submission of an extensive case portfolio. The process of become a Diplomate is optional and very few endodontists pursue this prestigious distinction. Dr. Walker has an unwavering commitment to his specialty and patients, assuring they receive the most advanced care available. 

Experience

Through 14 years in practice, Dr. Walker has performed thousands of successful root canal treatments. As a modern endodontist he performs ALL endodontic procedures under high magnification using the Surgical Operating Microscope (SOM). In addition to traditional root canals, Dr. Walker has extensive experience performing retreatment of existing root canals and apicoectomies (root surgeries). Before joining Endodontic Specialists in 2013, he practiced 3 years of general dentistry, completed two advanced residencies and practiced endodontics here in the Valley for 3 years. He has also instructed at the University of Detroit Mercy in the clinic and preclinical endodontic classes. Continuing education (CE) and keeping current with modern advances in endodontic care is extremely important to Dr. Walker. In addition to  attending many hours of CE each year, Dr. Walker is the director of a local study club that is aimed at providing advanced endodontic education to the local dental community.

Along with his clinical experience, Dr. Walker has been active in dental research. His contributions to several research projects include evaluation of composite filling (white filling) leakage and bond strength, and investigation of signal transduction proteins affecting muscle cell development. Most recently he has directed a study evaluating the biocompatibility and radiographic quality of new, state of the art bioceramic endodontic root filling materials used during root canal treatments and root surgeries.

Dr. Walker is an active professional member of the American Dental Association, Arizona Dental Association, the Central Dental Society and the American Association of Endodontics.

Personal

In his spare time Dr. Walker enjoys spending time with his wife Kerry, and his children Charlotte, Ian and Andy. They love the Arizona weather and take advantage of it as often as they can; golfing, hiking and spending plenty of time in the pool. When not with the family he plays in a weekly ice hockey league and loves to relax by playing guitar and drums.
